PRODUCT SUPPORT POLICY

1. Introduction.
With effect from 26 July 2002, de Havilland Support Ltd obtained UK CAA approval to assume from BAE SYSTEMS responsibility as the Type Design Organisation for the Scottish Aviation Bulldog aircraft.  The purpose of this Annex to Bulldog Service Bulletin (SB) BDG/100/00 is to explain how de Havilland Support Ltd will discharge its responsibilities for continued airworthiness of the Bulldog aircraft and how it will provide for the supply of technical publications, especially the distribution of SBs.

2. SB Subscription Service.
The purchase price of a full set of Bulldog SBs will include the provision of the first year’s subscription service only.  Thereafter, SB amendments will only continue to be received if the annual subscription fee is paid.  However, for those who subscribe to the SB service, de Havilland Support Ltd intends to publish a quarterly newsletter (or as urgency demands) to provide a regular means of communication with Bulldog aircraft owners, operators and maintenance organisations.  The newsletters will be a tangible means of communication for more informal technical or operational matters that do not justify the issue of a SB.

3. Other Technical Publications.
A number of other civil and military technical publications are issued in support of Bulldog aircraft, including Service Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogues, Maintenance Schedules, Repair & Overhaul Manuals, and Owner’s Handbooks (incorporating Approved Flight Manuals).   Whilst the civil publications are supported and will be amended as required by de Havilland Support Ltd, all military (ex-RAF) publications have been declared obsolete by the UK MOD.  Copies of some of these latter documents do, however, remain available.  Details of those publications currently available from de Havilland Support Ltd can be obtained from the address below.  Bulldog operators or maintainers holding copies of the civil Bulldog publications are urged to register ownership of the documents with de Havilland Support Ltd in order that they may be advised whenever an amendment or revision is published. There is no charge for registration as a publication holder.  In the event that a publication is amended or re-issued, de Havilland Support Ltd will contact all registered holders and advise details of the amendment and its cost.

4. Supply of Manufacturing Drawings.
The Company can provide copies of manufacturing drawings to assist in the maintenance or restoration of existing aircraft.  Such drawings are provided on the basis of acceptance of de Havilland Support Ltd’s normal trading terms (available on request).

5.  Repair Schemes.
The de Havilland Support Ltd archive contains an array of repair drawings and schemes which are presently being catalogued.  Thus, if an aircraft has damage in excess of those generic or minor repair schemes published in the Overhaul & Repair Manual, a solution may already be available.  Alternatively, the Company can originate new repair schemes or classify the extent of damage under the terms of its CAA design approval.  In future, it is hoped to display an Index of Repair Schemes for Bulldog aircraft on the Company’s website.

6.  Modifications.
The de Havilland Support Ltd Design Approval (UK CAA Groups E1 and E2) also allows the Company to originate modifications or to vet and support other proposals submitted from external sources.  Such activity might range from the approval of an alternative material specification to the design of a completely new aircraft system.  Due to the variability of the work required in modification design, each task would be the subject of an individual quotation.

7. Continued Airworthiness.
To keep the fleet of Bulldog aircraft airworthy and able to fly on into the future requires the Type Design Organisation, aircraft owners, operators and maintenance organisations to work together to solve any new technical problems as they arise.  Such solutions must sustain the airworthiness of the worldwide fleet but in a realistic and cost-effective manner.  As the Type Design Organisation, de Havilland Support Ltd will do all it can to achieve this aim.  The Company’s ability to do so, however, relies heavily on liaison and co-operation with aircraft owners, who must advise when they experience a problem for the first time or contact the Company if they have any questions about support of their aircraft.  A vital means of communication will be the regular newsletter and the associated SB service.

8. Data Protection Act.
de Havilland Support Ltd is registered under the UK Data Protection Act and undertakes not to disclose details of publication subscribers to any other party.

9.  Recording Action.
Whenever a new SB is published or an existing SB is amended, operators should hand-amend their copy of SB BDG/100/00  - “Bulldog Service Bulletin Index” to ensure that an up-to-date index is maintained.  The SB Index will be re-issued periodically.
